Fitness Friday – The ‘Fitness Pilates’ way!

Hello again, people! So, how has your week been so far? Mine, I reckon has been rather good, especially when it comes to eating well and incorporating a certain amount of exercise in my regular schedule. As I said earlier, I try to include regular breathing exercises such as ‘anulom-vilom’ as well as ‘kapalbhati’ into my daily routine and a few ‘surya namaskars’ too. However, I am aware that I need to either increase my ‘surya namaskars’ to get the required amount of cardio activity going or include another form of exercise to get a variety and keep boredom at bay! At the end of the day, don’t we all just want this?

So, a friend suggested that I start with something called ‘fitness pilates‘, which has similar moves or asanas as my favourite yoga but still happens to be slightly different and as we all know, Pilates is meant to be kind to your back! And so, I went for my first ever class. This is where I need to confess that I have a terrible history in sticking to attending these sort of classes  and when I say ‘sticking’, I mean just going to only the first one!! However, I am happy to report that I wasn’t disillusioned at all and have broken my track record, well, of attending more than one session! I enjoyed it and knew it was working, well, the muscles did let me know!

So, here I am, loving this ‘fitness pilates’ and thanking my instructor Becky, for making it ever so interesting. I would love to share this little (well, 45 minutes!) video that Becky has made of a typical session. The thing is, that there are so many different forms and variations of exercises available. You need to find one that works best for you, something that you can easily include in your daily schedule. I still do my yoga every morning. I believe in yoga far too much to not do it! However, incorporating ‘Fitness Pilates’ into my weekly schedule has been good. Apart from it being good for my body, it created an opportunity, well gave me an excuse to go shopping for some new fitness gear, mats and lycra! Though, as you all know by now, I am not just a shopper, I am so much more...
