Swirl Away with the ‘mighty’ skirt

Happy Navratras and Shubho Mahalaya, everyone! It’s time to celebrate, be joyful and shop…For me, it’s that time of the year when I look forward to draping my new sarees and swirling around in my long skirts, ‘lehnga’ lookalikes. Sarees, we spoke about not so long ago, so, today I am just going to put my heart and soul into finding out the best ‘swirly’ gorgeousness for you. So, stay put and continue to read…

I love skirts, well, most people I know, do; especially the really long ones…they are superbly classy, elegant and comfortable; as well as have the potential to be accessorised up or down, based on where the moment or my mood takes me. I heard myself say: Tribal Banjara jewellery…and you?  Did you know that this humble, skirt was once used as in indicator of a woman’s status! In fact, one of the oldest styles of clothes known to the human race was a kind of a skirt! Well, take the most basic loincloth that we are all very familiar with, and that was perhaps used as the earliest piece of clothing by the human race. Wasn’t this just a very basic version of a ‘wrap around’ skirt? I think it was; of course, made from animal skin and worn by both, men and women. May I suggest that you please give this long, swirly, long skirt a place in your wardrobe, that is, if you already don’t have one.

Before we drift away in the world of ‘swirlies’, let me ask you all a riddle. History has it that it was initially coined by the great poet, Amir Khusro; it has absolutely nothing to do with the ‘twirlies’ but to be fair, it does mention the loveable ‘skirt’, so, here it goes:

She wears a round skirt, stands on one leg,

This lady has eight legs,

and looks like a fairy.

Everyone wants her,

Muslim, Hindu, Khatri (traditional warriors)

Khusro asks this riddle, so just think about it.

Apologies, if this has annoyed you…wasn’t my intention at all; it’s the festive season after all; enjoy, annoy, have truckloads of fun and keep the patience at all times…Without further ado, I present to you, some must-have ‘twirlies for this season…

Doesn’t a gorgeous ‘twirly’ make you feel like a free bird? Does it make you feel like ‘all is well’? Is there a flutter in your heart and a song on your lips? Worry not! It’s because of the ‘swirly’ that you have just set your heart upon…go, get it before the magic (and with it, the festive season) disappears.

So, which one are you going for? Pick the one that makes your heart skip a beat and twirl away…Oh yes! and before I sign off, the answer to the riddle was ‘an umbrella’ 🙂

Happy festivities, people!
