I learnt my lessons in kindness and compassion at a very tender age. I remember my mother being very compassionate towards the less fortunate, doing whatever she could in her own way to help them. She would tell us (my sister and I) real stories about my grandparents and their many random acts of kindness. As we were growing up, I saw my sister do things for others that sometimes bordered on being foolish, but was never told off by my parents. My mother would smile, followed by a gentle explanation why she could have chosen to do the same thing differently. This somewhere left an impact on both of us.
Today, as we are much older, the nurturing, the kindness and the compassion has instilled a strong desire to make a difference to the less fortunate. Both of us support different causes in our own little way, and hope that someday, we would be able to do a lot more.
In this series of posts, I would be sharing different causes that are close to our hearts, and how giving is not so difficult after all.
I sign off with this music video, written by Javed Akhtar and sung by Shankar Mahadevan for AkshayaPatra that got tears to my eyes…maybe because this is something I believe in!
