Nidhi Bala realised that imitations of the lustrous Chikankari were being made and sold at unfair prices both in India and abroad. This triggered her to take action to save the fading faces behind the art and thus was founded Tanzeb, an organisation supporting women artisans skilled in the craft of Chikankari. Today, with her team of artisans, Tanzeb creates exquisite and well-priced pieces with a focus on keeping the centuries old embroidery craft alive.
Tanzeb works on a diverse range of fabrics, sourcing quite a few from the handloom weavers and then working with skilled Chikankari artisans based in and around the city of Lucknow to create magnificent fabric. As a consumer, you have the choice of buying ‘royal’ looking napkins and linen for your dining table as well as unstitched embroidered fabric or simply ready-to-wear for your wardrobe, from Tanzeb.
Do have a look at some of their pieces here:
If you would like to know more about Tanzeb’s work with Chikankari , then please do read a post we had done earlier on them. We are thrilled to have Tanzeb as part of Notjustashopper’s Festive 20:20:1.
If you are looking to buy something traditional yet modern, then a Tanzeb piece would be what we would highly recommend. Go, lovely people, show them some love.
