We grew up listening to ‘health is wealth’, ‘early to bed, early to rise, makes a man, healthy, wealthy and wise’ but then somewhere in the process of growing up, living a life surrounded by information explosion, streamed entertainment, gadgets and chaos, we began measuring our success with the level of stress we could endure and suddenly found ourselves being in a state that most certainly couldn’t be described as ‘happy’ or ‘at peace’. However, as they say in Hindi ‘जब जागो तभी सवेरा’ , roughly translating to mean that it’s never too late to start afresh and this is exactly what is happening with most of us today.
Well-Being is rightfully getting the coverage it deserves; finally looking after oneself is being given the ‘VIP seat’ it deserves and we are bringing to you 7-businesses over the next 7-day period that celebrate this. I invite you to join us on this journey and, to familiarise you with the participants we are including a little introduction to the people behind the offerings:
Vatsala Pant: Wellness Consultant & Speaker, Hatha yoga practitioner, Reiki healer
Vatsala is a seeker, what is being sought has changed over time. An alumna of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Vatsala joined the corporate sector and worked across industries, from advertising and marketing to market research, working and living in India, Singapore, the Philippines and China. After juggling work and family for several years, she became aware of the importance of physical, mental and spiritual health and has now devoted herself to their pursuit.
Most of all Yoga is about healing yourself. And to begin that process, you need to begin with accepting how you are, today. As the internet meme goes, You can’t heal what you don’t love. You begin with accepting your body the way it is today, take responsibility for your own health. Vatsala reminds us again that each one of us is unique and so should our yoga practice be. It is not a competitive sport, where you instagram your best pose. The idea is to get better than how you were, each day, one step at a time. It is you vs yourself. There isn’t a perfect body shape that will do yoga right. As Vatsala says ‘anyone can yoga.’

Annelise Piers: Yin Yoga practitioner, Essential Oil Specialist, Metaphor Therapist, NLP practitioner
Anna specialises in holistic healing, using a combination of yin yoga, essential oils and metaphor therapy. She is a qualified Hatha and Yin yoga teacher and her primary audience is women in the perimenopause and menopausal transition. She believes that women can stay in the driver’s seat on their wellness journey, every day of the month.
Using essential oils is a cross-cultural practice that has been around for thousands of years. The oil extracted from the seeds, roots, leaves or the flowers of a plant is used in various ways since forever. Growing up, some of us were subjected to the wonders of the pungent mustard, coconut and almond oils, especially in times when we were feeling poorly. Thankfully, today there are some beautifully fragrant oils to choose from, still with the age-old goodness intact.
As a yogic sciences expert and a certified essential oil specialist , she is well placed to be creating the best-suited oil blends. Fondly referred to as the good witch or the mistress of magical potions, she is best known for her chakra balancing potions, a deeply researched and all-natural set of 7 body oils for healing support encompassing the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects.
Madhavi Saxena: Founder of Vedic Tattva, a brand creating 100% natural skincare & personal care products
Run by a mother-daughter duo, this brand is on a mission of creating 100% natural products while advocating the use of India’s age-old traditions. All this while practising sustainability and creating and working within self-sufficient ecosystems. This translates to all ingredients being sourced from local farmers engaged in natural farming which are then used to prepare products in small batches by hand. These handcrafting process ensures their freshness, goodness and complete control on quality.
Madhavi was driven by the simplicity and the effectiveness of the home-beauty regimes that she observed while growing up. The traditional practice of oiling hair at night at least twice a week, using chickpea flour to wash face, body as well as hair and the act of applying oil all over the body soon after a shower resulted in great results. Over the years, these simple practices were lost and replaced by mass-produced chemical concoctions but now, Vedic Tattva is working assiduously towards bringing the traditional way of self-care back into our lives.
Nidhi Singh Samyal: Reiki Master, Behavioural Therapist, Journaling Guide,Meditation Writer & Pranic Healing practitioner
Nidhi wears many hats that she has earned working towards self-improvement of self and others. Her clients have found immense value from journaling and Nidhi would be throwing some light on this for us. Journaling has been seen to be most effective for rediscovering or maintaining self worth, increasing confidence, balancing passion and for increasing zest for one’s life.
Journey through our thoughts, feelings and emotions is often perplexing or even challenging. It can appear to be like navigating through the puzzling maze or at other times this journey can appear to be painful, uncomfortable, and daunting when visiting catacombs of memories buried down deeper into our subconscious and unconscious mind, that have been accumulating since our childhood. As a Journaling guide, Nidhi will gently guide you through these to try and help you to release hurt, pain, traumatic experiences or simply to find acceptance of your emotions and its complexities. Starting from creating customised prompts for your journaling while guiding you through the whole process, she will simply hold the safe space for you to just, “Be”.
Lizzie Cutmore: Kundalini Yoga teacher, Certified in Ayurvedic Foot Massage & Gong Relaxation
Lizzie has been teaching Kundalini yoga in Cambridge since 2008, having trained with the Amrit Nam Sarovar Yoga school and then with Camyoga. Lizzie is also certified in Ayurvedic Kansa Vakti foot massage and Gong relaxation.
Often yoga is presented as a set of exercises that will build your strength, make you more flexible and can add to your overall health and wellbeing; Kundalini yoga is that and more. It is also a relationship between you and your Self, it is a technology of awareness. The word “yoga” (“jugit” in sanskrit) means to join and by practising Kundalini yoga you are working to join the mind, body and spirit; to join the finite with the infinite. Kundalini yoga can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter of age or physical ability.
A kundalini class always begins by “tuning in” with a short mantra then we start some warm up exercises and follow this with a Kriya, which is a yoga set of exercises for a specific purpose. This includes stretching postures, movement exercises, breathing exercises and chanting mantras. Mantras may seem strange at first but they are Yoga for the mind, they set up sound vibrations in the body and change mental states. Finally we finish with relaxation and/or meditation. As Yogi Bhajan said, “Life is a flow of love, only your participation is requested”, join in when you are ready.
Sathyajith Devdas: Coffee farmer from Coorg
Sathya comes from a family that has been growing coffee in the hills of Coorg for many, many years selling to middlemen but now, Sathyajith is working towards connecting to customers directly and will be talking to us about the speciality of his most delicious, aromatic shade-grown coffee. This coffee is grown at 4450 ft elevation, always handpicked and is still one of the best Arabica beans.
Many decades were spent bashing this drink but the last few years has seen some research being published about coffee not being bad enough to be put in the ‘naughty corner’. It’s still not a health drink but just like everything else, when taken in moderation, it works just fine and when the coffee beans are looked after with love and care, then even better.

Devdyuti Baksi: Clinical Hypnotherapist, Reiki and Theta healing master practitioner, CBT life coach and NLP master practitioner
As a certificated clinical hypnotherapist, Devdyuti’s mission is to help clients overcome obstacles using the vehicle of hypnosis. She works with clinically proven techniques to deliver tailor made plans to suit individual requirements. Research has shown efficacy of both Reiki and hypnotherapy in treatment of various conditions. Hypnotherapy is a clinical proven safe and effective form of therapy which promotes deep relaxation and then helps you to alter your mindset to better manage your life. Many of our behaviours are the result of unconscious conditioning and she will help you find alternate, more effective ways. At this point, it’s worth mentioning that through the entire process, you, the client will always be in complete control. Be at the helm of your life and become the best version of yourself. This has been used by her clients for overcoming a range of issues including addiction to alcohol, smoking and to managing pain and reducing anxiety too.
Another area where hypnosis is seeing great success is weight management using the gastric band technique pioneered by Sheila Granger, under whom Devdyuti has trained. This program uses a combination of approaches and besides four off hypnosis sessions, the client is given a recording to listen to over a period of twenty eight days. This is followed (post completion) by three monthly support sessions and a recording tailored to the client’s goals. Hypnosis helps to induce and reinforce changes in food habits and to address the issues which encouraged weight gain in the past such as comfort eating, binge eating, sleep habits and more. This is a holistic program addressing physical as well as mental well-being of the client.
Some wise person had rightly said about us not being able to pour from an empty cup. So, lovely people, now is a good time as any to begin to fill your very own cup. We will like to end this post with one of our most favourite lines, referred to as the ‘The long time sun’:
‘May the long time sun shine upon you
All love surround you and
The pure light within you
Guide your way on.’
